Hairdressing Foundations (Yr 9 - Yr 12)
Unlock the secrets to hair and scalp health. This workshop focuses on treatments and equips you with the knowledge and skills to address individual concerns and create effective treatment plans. Learn essential styling techniques, from blow-drying, straightening and creating curls. Build a strong foundation for your hairdressing career or simply add to your personal styling skills. This is a hands-on practical course.

Barista & Cafe Skills (Yr 7 - Yr 12)
Learn how to operate a barista machine. Prepare coffees, milkshakes, mocktails and frappes. Guidance on customer service skills and confidence to work in a hospitality cafe setting.

FItness Fusion (Yr 9 - 12)
A day in the life of a fitness instructor/ personal trainer. Become a fitness instructor for the day. Learn what fitness trainers can offer and how we can help people and ourselves. What we will learn; Basic fitness testing, Goal setting and sports performance, Injury prevention, Stretching, Correct exercise technique for beginners to advanced exercisers in the gym. Career course pathways and many of your health & fitness questions answered.
When: 15 April 2025 | 9:00 am - 12:00pm

Character Illustration & Design for Visual Media (Yr 7 - Yr 12)
This is a 1 day workshop on the basics of producing digital illustrations and character concepts for games and movies.
Students will need to bring their own laptop and have photoshop installed. They will learn the basics in adobe.

⭐ VISIT FROM SUSAN TEMPLEMAN MP, FEDERAL MEMBER FOR MACQUARIE ⭐ Yesterday, we had the honour of welcoming Macquarie Federal MP, Susan Templeman, to our College. During her visit, she was interviewed by our Year 12 student, Cyrena, as part of her Personal Interest Project, which explores the evolving landscape of social media and its impact on bullying among Australian students. It was incredibly insightful to hear Susan’s perspective on this important issue. We also had the pleasure of showcasing our college through a guided tour, giving Susan a glimpse into our vibrant learning community. We would like to express our gratitude to Susan for generously taking the time to visit our college, and to Cyrena for her outstanding work on such a significant topic. We are immensely proud of you. ⭐ SECONDARY SCHOOLS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM ⭐ Year 12 students Elysia and Ava recently represented Penola Catholic College at a civics and citizenship program hosted by the Parliament of NSW. The students heard from various current MPs about what it takes to be a good leader representing the diverse NSW community. One of our local MPs, Ms Karen McKeown OAM, heard directly from our student about issues affecting the Penrith area's youth. Watching the MPs in action during Question Time in the Legislative Council was a highlight for the morning. It was only bettered by the tour of Government House and hearing a speech from the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, about the importance of her role as the protector of integrity within our legal system. Mr Pajaron praised both of our students for the way they graciously represented our school throughout the day. Thank you Elysia and Ava for your excellent representation of Penola Catholic College.

⭐ YEAR 10 MATHS ⭐ In Year 10 Maths, students have been diving into the concept of finding the volume of a sphere. To make things even more exciting, students explored this through bubbles and observed how their shapes change between spheres and hemispheres. Our Penola Mathematics team is outstanding and this hands-on approach increases engagement for student learning. 🫧

⭐ YEAR 8 PI DAY ACTIVITIES ⭐ Recently, Year 8 students took part in a cross-curriculum activity combining Maths and English to celebrate Pi Day. Instead of the traditional Haiku, students got creative with a Pi-Ku, where the syllable pattern followed Pi’s famous 3.14: 3 syllables, 1 syllable and 4 syllables. 🥧✏️ It was a fantastic way to blend math with poetry, and the students had a blast!

⭐ YEAR 11 & 12 ANCIENT HISTORY EXCURSION ⭐ Recently, our Year 11 and 12 Ancient History students visited the National Museum of Australia in Canberra to view the Pompeii exhibition; an extraordinary new immersive experience that combines captivating soundscapes and large-scale digital projections with over 90 objects from the ancient city. ⭐ SRC LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE ⭐ Recently, our College SRC Leaders attended the Secondary Schools Youth Leadership Conference at Darling Harbour. They developed their confidence in a fun, energetic workshop while learning about the power of service leadership from inspirational speakers. A highlight was hearing how the founder of Oz Harvest, Ronnie Kahn, did not set out to create a charity but merely saw a problem and pursued an obvious solution. Mrs Vella, SRC Mentor Teacher, noted how wonderful it was to see our student leaders be so inspired by the speakers' stories and form lasting connections with each other.
