The theme for National Skills Week this year is ‘Game Changer’, so we’ve created an event that shares information on how Vocational Education and Training can ignite paths to personal and professional success, and give you a competitive edge with the skills and confidence to thrive. It’s a great way to get some direction for your future and start making plans about the path you want to take.
Here’s a breakdown of our event

You will hear from our special keynote speaker, Peter Mackey, Executive Director of Skills and Industry @ Western Parkland City Authority, on the once-in-a-generation job opportunities arising from the new 24/7 Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the surrounding Western Sydney Aerotropolis precinct.
We also have a panel of industry experts from Cyber Security, Early Childhood Education and Aged Care who will share insights about their industry and answer any questions you or your parents might have about working in these areas.

⭐ NAIDOC WEEK ⭐ NAIDOC Week took place during the school holidays from 7-14 July 2024. This year's theme, "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud," celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying voices that have long been silenced. Penola Catholic College commenced our NAIDOC Week celebrations this week with a smoking ceremony. A smoking ceremony is an ancient custom among Aboriginal tribes that involves smouldering various native plants to produce smoke with cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits. 🏥 HEALTH HACKATHON 🏥 Eight of our students recently participated in the inaugural Health Hackathon, co-facilitated by Regional Industry Education Partnership (RIEP), the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Ministry of Health. The event was held at Westmead Hospital over two days in June. Students worked in small groups to develop a campaign to address a health issue of their choice for their peers and their school, which they presented at the end of day two. This was an exciting opportunity for our students to have exposure to health industry careers and make some industry connections. Many thanks to Christine Assanti from RIEP and her ongoing support of our students with these opportunities. @catholicschoolsparra

⭐ TAFE YOUTH ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY (YES) PROGRAM ⭐ During term two, five of our year 10 students explored the world of childcare by attending TAFE Nirimba campus one day per week. Students attended practical workshops with a focus on activities and experiences for young children, and key skills such as work and safety. TAFE’s ‘YES’ program - is available to year 10 students who are interested in a particular career and would like to explore it while still at school. Our girls loved the program and learnt a lot about the various aspects of working in a childcare centre. They were presented a graduation certificate after a celebration lunch on the final day. @catholicschoolsparra @tafensw
